International Standards Comparison
Compare the requirements that affect daily operation, service life and acceptance. The final specification follows your project and destination requirements.
| What matters | European FEM / EN | American CMAA / ASME | Chinese GB/T |
|---|---|---|---|
| Static load test | Generally 1.25 × rated load for powered lifting machinery. | US OSHA: test load no more than 1.25 × rated load unless the manufacturer recommends otherwise. | TSG 51: 1.25 × rated load for the general static test. |
| Dynamic load test | Generally 1.10 × rated load. | Operational testing of motions and safety devices; agree the applicable ASME test procedure. | TSG 51: 1.10 × rated load. |
| Duty and durability | Specify crane classification and the hoist mechanism group separately, using the actual workload. | CMAA service classes A–F; fatigue is also considered. Applicable classes depend on crane type. | Crane classes A1–A8; declare each mechanism class separately. |
| Motor rating | Confirm kW, duty cycle, starts per hour, hoisting speed and ambient temperature. | Confirm HP or kW under the same duty and thermal conditions. | Confirm kW under the same duty and thermal conditions. |
| Steel grade | Typical examples: S235 or S355. Confirm thickness and material certificates. | Typical examples: A36 or A572 Grade 50. Confirm thickness and certificates. | Typical examples: Q235 or Q355. Confirm thickness and material certificates. |
| Cold-temperature performance | Impact grade matters: JR, J0 and J2 have different test temperatures. | Specify the required impact test temperature and energy; a strength grade alone is insufficient. | Specify the impact quality and certificate; Q355B, C and D differ. |
| Braking and safety | Confirm holding on power loss, overload protection, hook limits and emergency-stop functions. | OSHA addresses brakes, hoist limits, stops and bumpers. Agree additional safety functions. | TSG 51 addresses brakes and lifting-load limiters. Agree application-specific protection. |
| Supply and environment | Specify site voltage, frequency, phases, temperature and ingress protection. | Specify actual site supply and the required enclosure type; NEMA and IP are not identical systems. | Specify destination supply, temperature and ingress protection for the actual equipment. |
| Building loads and headroom | Compare the offered crane’s wheel loads, headroom and hook approaches. | Compare the same dimensions and loads; a CMAA label does not guarantee a heavier crane. | Compare the same dimensions and loads; the design basis alone does not determine size. |
Load-test factors are acceptance tests, not extra working capacity. Steel grades above are examples, not mandatory selections. China’s TSG rules apply within their regulatory scope; exported equipment must meet its destination requirements. Confirm the applicable standards, editions and test procedure in the project specification.
